Something New for the Nails

Greetings!

I decided to give something new a try. And that would be some press on nails, a lovely nod to the 80's.

As someone who wasn't thinking into the future, I got rid of the package already so I'm not sure exactly what color these are, but they're a nice pink with a subtle, glittery sparkle. The brand is Impress Press-on Manicure.

These were very easy to apply. But I took things one step further to ensure that they would stay put on as some reviews I read talked about the nails popping off.

Enter the nail glue. Very inexpensive and I figured it would give these some extra staying power. They feel really solid! Haven't really figured how I'll be getting them off yet, but I'll worry about that later on....

Anyhow, here is the finished product.

I'm pretty impressed so far. I won't be able to give an accurate account of how long they last naturally since the addition of glue, but we'll see how this goes. I was able to find a pretty good fit for all of my nails except for my thumbs which are a little wider. So one thumb looks a little wacky, but I'm thinking I can put a similar color polish in the small empty spot. But in the end I don't think that will be too noticeable except to my own OCD senses. Also, I decided to take a nail clipper to a few of them as certain fingers were looking a little "fake" and a little too long for me although these are the "short" length. Another great surprise was that the nail clipper worked incredibly well after I had put the nails on. I was thinking they might crack, but no such thing (although that may happen if you clip them before you put them on your nails.)

I'm really loving the look so far so we'll see how they hold up!

Greetings from the Mastermind's Sister

Yesterday, my wonderful sister Amanda (the mastermind of this web creation) told me she had created a beauty blog. As a supportive sister, I was excited to follow it, give love to all her posts, and read through her wandering thoughts. As the discussion continued, I mentioned to her that I myself had started a blog long ago; it was a random set of rambling thoughts that I have since deleted. Somehow, it was decided that this could be a lovely sisterly blog where we could provide some fun commentary on the subject of beauty.  After some technological shenanigans and email/password formatting, here I am!

My name is Christina, and it is a pleasure to be here. I'm a 26 year old graduate student who is happily married to the most wonderful man I can imagine. I moved from Arizona to California about three years ago, and while California has its pros and cons, the family (husband and sweet dog) and I enjoy the home we bought here a couple years back. I'm feeling incredibly ready to be done with grad school although I know once I get back into the real working world, I'll be overwhelmed and want to go back to school. But overall, things are good. I'm a lucky girl who is just trying to find a happy path to travel in this world.

On to the beauty, glitz, and glamour...my formality in the beauty world is about a 1 out of 100. I'm no professional, and playing with makeup is simply an enjoyable, whimsical hobby. As Amanda also mentioned, I too do not spend endless amounts of money on products and clothes because lets be honest, who in the real, non-elite, mortgage, bill filled world can afford such things. But in the end, I'm a lover of makeup and the creativity it brings. I love to play with colors and designs and patterns and products, and I must say, I'm often a sucker for the cute packaging. Lets just say releasing me in the makeup aisle is a risky and time consuming move.  I'm actually quite excited to be a part of this project as I've never really had (or taken) the opportunity to do some talking about beauty and its many facets.

A big thank you to my sister for including me on this journey, and I look forward to the writing, creating, and sharing that is soon to come :)

Springtime!

Well it is official spring! And spring usually means new clothes, new makeup, and baby animals :)

Now how could that not make you smile.

Anyway, back to the other new things that come with spring. Clothes and makeup! Now, just because of this doesn't mean you have to run out and buy a whole bunch of new stuff, but I did! Ulta recently had TONS of sales going on and almost everything was BOGO which is awesome. :) Now, I think the closest Ulta store to me is about 7 hours away so needless to say, I ordered online but it worked out fine for me. I know a lot of people have bad experiences shopping online, but this order was a success. This is just an overview of what I got. I will probably do some more in depth reviews of some of these things.

The things I bought!
Revlon Nearly Naked Foundation and powder I got the foundation in number 120 Vanilla and the powder in light

NYX Powder Blush in Bourgeois Pig and Summer Peach
NYX Jumbo Eye Pencil in Oyster and Strawberry Milk

Covergirl and Olay Simply Ageless Serum
Covergirl Clump Crusher Mascara in very black water resistant

Maybelline Eye Studio Color Plush Silk Eyeshadow in Copper Chic
Maybelline Color Whispers in Coral Ambition

Ulta Salon Formula Nail Polish in Ginger Peach and Pinata-Yada

Right now Ulta is having buy 2 get 2 free of their salon formula nail polishes and I am definitely thinking of getting more! Also, BOGO for Maybelline and Covergirl and it looked like some Revlon products were about 40% off! Definitely a good time to go check out Ulta.

Well that is it for this haul, but I will be back soon with reviews of these products!

this is me

I am not sure what sparked me to start this blog, but I am going to do it anyway. I have a lot of things going on in my life right now and perhaps I thought this could be therapeutic. I am currently looking for a job, planning my wedding, and looking for a new place to live since our house is being sold out from under us. Bummer. But alas, I cannot be sad about life, because I really don't have it that bad. I have a wonderful fiance and the best (sometimes) dog ever. They love me and that is pretty much all I need. They make me happy and I like being happy. I have decided to make this blog a beauty blog, but a casual beauty blog. I do not buy high end products or million dollar shoes because I think there is beauty in everything, especially things that make you happy. I have been watching a log of Youtube videos lately about beauty. Hair, makeup, clothes, and all those things and I thought, maybe someone would like to know my opinion on these things. I live in a town where jeans, chacos, and t-shirts are the uniform and I think that is pretty awesome. Don't get me wrong, I like to dress up as much as the next girl, but I think I have found the ways that work for me to feel good about myself while still fitting in with my casual community. So here goes nothing and lets get started!!!
